Tips + Tricks to Declutter Your Space and Your Mind.

It’s time to throw open the windows, let the warm breezes blow and start clearing out old things and old energy. Spring is the ultimate cleaning and decluttering season for both physical and mental spaces, allowing us to refresh, renew and bring in a clear, clean state of mind.

Declutter Your Space, Declutter Your Mind

Start your refresh with the physical realm and do a home detox first. Clutter has a sneaky way of creeping into our lives, slowly but surely, until it becomes a chaotic presence that weighs us down. Marie Kondo, the queen of tidying up, famously said, "The space in which we live should be for the person we are becoming now, not for the person we were in the past." That means, if something doesn’t reflect your current mindset or future goals, or bring you absolute joy, it is time to say goodbye.

Tips for Effective Decluttering

  •  Set Clear Intentions: Before diving into decluttering, set clear intentions for what you want to achieve. Visualize your ideal living space—clean, organized, and serene—and let that vision guide you throughout the process.
  •  Take It Step by Step: Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither will your clutter-free haven. Break down the decluttering process into manageable tasks, tackling one area at a time. Start small, perhaps with a single drawer or shelf, and gradually work your way up to larger spaces.
  •  Sort and Simplify: As you declutter, sort items into categories—keep, donate, recycle, and toss. Be ruthless in your decision-making, holding onto only those items that serve a purpose or bring you joy. Simplify your possessions to create a sense of space and clarity.
  •  Keep only what you love.  Our tastes change, styles change, and attachments to things come and go. If you struggle with keeping an item that you no longer love, simply thank it for what it brought into your life and imagine it going to someone who is in need. Letting go of objects and energetically gifting them to someone who may love them next is a beautiful way to release old energy and tell the universe you're ready for something new.

The Mind-Body Connection

Decluttering can be transformative for your mental state as well. There's a powerful mind-body connection at play — when we clear away physical clutter, we also free up space in our mind. A cluttered space can lead to feelings of overwhelm, anxiety, and stagnation. Conversely, a tidy and organized environment fosters a sense of calm, clarity, and creativity.
By decluttering our physical space, we create room for new opportunities, experiences, and energy to flow into our lives. We release the old to make space for the new, inviting abundance and positivity to manifest in every aspect of our being.

Rituals for Space Clearing and Renewal

Creating a ritual for space clearing and renewal can be a powerful practice to help cleanse your home of stagnant energy and invite fresh vibrations to flourish.
  •  Smudging: Burn sage or palo santo to purify the air and dispel negative energy. As you waft the smoke throughout your space, set an intention for peace, harmony, and renewal.
  •  Open the Windows: Invite fresh air and sunlight into your home by opening the windows wide. Let the gentle breeze carry away any lingering stagnation, infusing your space with vitality and light.
  •  Clear the Energy: Use sound vibrations to clear stagnant energy from your environment. Ring a bell, play soothing music, or chant affirmations as you move through each room, uplifting the energy and revitalizing the space.
  •  Set Intentions: Take a moment to set intentions for your newly decluttered space. What do you want to invite into your life? Whether it's love, abundance, or creativity, infuse your space with positive energy and watch as miracles unfold.
Embrace the Journey
Spring cleaning isn't just about tidying up, it's a journey of transformation, and renewal. As you declutter your space, pay attention to how it makes you feel. Notice the sense of lightness, clarity, and freedom that accompanies each cleared surface and organized drawer. Celebrate each small victory along the way, knowing that with each item released, you make space for the new to enter your life.
