Prep For Spray Tan.
Want to look like a glowing goddess after a week on the beach when you’ve really just been on the couch binge watching Ted Lasso? If so, how you prep your skin is going to make the difference between a gorgeous glow and a streaky finish. Follow our steps below to avoid common self-tanning mistakes.
Watermelon + Fresh Mint Moisture Loving Sugar Scrub
Step 1:
Exfoliate with a Sugar Scrub to help remove any dead skin cells for an even application.
The key to pre-tanning skin prep is having a clean, smooth canvas to work with. That means pre application exfoliation is a must. While we recommend using a Sugar Scrub 1-3 times a week for soft, smooth skin, if you haven’t been keeping up with that, start the week before using self tanner. Sloughing off dull skin cells and helping ease dry patches will give you your smoothest application.

Step 2:
Skip the shaving cream and shave with our Body Wash to make sure your extra clean and smooth for application.
Whether you are applying your own self tanner or having it done professionally, shave your legs a few hours before the application and end your shower with a blast of cold water to close pores. Doing it right after a hot bath can mean open pores, which may produce the look of little brown dots where the tanner has settled in.

Step 3:
Moisturize before tanning. Hydration is important.

Be sure to moisturize using a lotion or body butter 8-24 hours before tanning. Do not moisturize any sooner. It is also important to moisturize after your tan as well, so keep those products handy for after your session.

Step 4:
Apply your self tanner to a clean, lotion-free, perfume-free body.
Applying tanner with oils on your body may cause streaks where the tanner can’t penetrate. This is why we mentioned moisturizing 8-12 hours before and not sooner. The time for your tan to set depends on your brand, so read the label thoroughly or check with salon recommendations if you are having it done for you. And as mentioned, take the same products you used to moisturized to hydrate and give your self tan and skin a more lustrous glow and help it last longer.

Happy, glowing!
