The last thing a getaway should be is stressful.
Enter the art of minimalism; a beautiful, simplistic, back-to-basics way of being that can help make your vacation time more relaxed and enjoyable. A getaway should be about unwinding your mind, restoring your energy, experiencing the unexperienced, and taking in a new perspective. That’s why when it comes to packing – the less you take, the better.
If you’d like to prioritize experiences over possessions on your next vacay, here are the only 5 things you really need to think about packing. Now, isn’t that liberating?
1. One Core Outfit
Why not give yourself a break from making decisions about what to wear? Every decision we make throughout the day takes up little bits of mental energy (this is called decision fatigue), so the more we do to cut them out – the better. Pack as many variations as you need of one core outfit (including basics, of course), and you’ll be giving yourself more time to spend on doing what you actually want to do on your trip. Oh, and your core outfit should always include protective items – like a hat if you’re heading somewhere sunny.
2. Skincare
It’s important to stick to your skincare routine and care for your complexion with consistency. When you’re transitioning into another climate, no matter how slightly different the temperature might be, your skin will know it – keep feeding it the nutrients it needs to stay healthy, even when you’re in another time zone. To pack your skincare efficiently, get a hold of some travel sized containers and bottles. Squeeze the perfect amount of cleanser, moisturizer, body butter, and importantly, sun screen, you think you’ll need. This will save you precious suitcase space, and make your luggage much lighter.
3. A good book
Whether it’s a novel or a journal – something to read, or write in, is always a good idea. A trip with your favorite E-Reader or physical book is the way to go. Taking a book about the history or nature of the place you’re going to will add extra intrigue and wonder to your vacation. Journaling about the activities you did is also a great way to wind down each night!
4. An Eco-Friendly Tote Bag
Fold a tote bag into your suitcase so you have a compact, but handy, bag to use during the day on your trip – especially useful if you plan on going to the beach or shopping local products. A tote bag will save you (and the environment) from having to use plastic bags – and many of them nowadays are made with snap locks to keep your valuables safe.
5. Self-Cooling Water Bottle
Keeping well-hydrated is non-negotiable. When you step outside your day-today routine, you need to be a bit more mindful of what you put into your body. A self-cooling water bottle is the safest way to ensure you always have a cool sip of water – no matter where you are. Listen to your body and it’ll thank you for it.
