Top 5 Ways to Organize Your Home Into a Zen Paradise

Posted By Cherry Thongthavikiat on August 23, 2018

If you, like us, joined in the summer spirit of letting go and living free a little too literally, then your home might be in need of a mini-overhaul. There’s never been an easier way to reconnect with your roots and to get grounded than by working on increasing the zen in your home. With the weather slowly getting cooler, now is the perfect time to declutter and create the perfect home environment to soothe your mind, body, and soul.

  1. Increase Natural Light

Start simple. An easy way to implement your exposure to natural light starts with you. Try to wake up when it’s light out and sleep when it’s dark out to maintain a healthy sleep rhythm. Bring light into your home by removing heavy curtains and harsh, fluorescent lighting and replace them with softer lighting that focuses on particular areas, like for instance a reading lamp. Letting as much natural light in your home allows you to get the best rest possible. Besides, is there anything more calming than bringing the outside in?

  1. Introduce Water

Set the scene. Although it is true that adding the sound of trickling water to your home may not be as easy to implement as other points, there are ways to recreate this environment. Finding a small water feature to place on a shelf can do this. The sound of trickling water has a soothing and calming effect and will help you breathe easier. If that’s not an option, simply replace your regular soundtrack with the sound of streaming water. Create a peaceful environment of rest and relaxation before going to bed each night to restore and rejuvenate your energy for the next day.

  1. Declutter

Perhaps one the most important points in creating a zen atmosphere in your home is decluttering. It’s important to clear the mind and give your soul some space to breathe. Tuck away exposed cords, remove non-functional ornaments and decorations. Letting go of attachments that are deemed not necessary is a liberating experience. Disconnect from possessions that only weigh you down. As an added positive, you’ll definitely have less dust and grime to wipe away from finicky, non-functional items.

  1. Go Natural

It’s time to go natural. Think scents, plants, fabrics, and materials. As we said before, bringing the outside in has a soothing effect on your mind, body, and spirit, so why not maximize this influence in your home? Along with choosing natural materials and fabrics, think about using a neutral color palette to reduce all the noise that busy spaces can create. Think of your home as a canvas Keep hallways and open areas clean, be purposeful with your furniture and always remember that less is more!

  1. Lower Furniture

Having furniture that is shorter, cleaner and closer to the ground at home works to create the feeling of space and breathability. Get rid of fussy pieces with excess detailing. Keeping furniture with clean designs and simplicity not only ensures your home maintains a fresh appearance, but it also means your mind will be able to focus without all the clutter. Keeping your home décor simple means less maintenance, space to breathe and most importantly gives you room to unwind and clear your mind.
